Allgyer, Corinna Lynn Wiens
September 27, 1981 - May 30, 2020
Corinna Lynn Allgyer was born on September 27, 1981 in Burns Lake, British Columbia to John and Olinda Wiens.
She attended Danskin Mennonite School for ten years. At the age of fifteen, Corinna accepted Christ as Lord of her life. She loved spending time outdoors riding horse, or working in the flower beds and garden. The greenhouse that her Dad built for her was a special delight and she spent hours tending her plants. Her brothers remember her often whistling and singing as she worked or played. In the summer of 1999, Corinna traveled to Guatemala with her parents to visit her brother Trevor. There she met James Allgyer.
In September 2000, James asked Corinna for her friendship. They promised their lives to each other on March 8, 2002. They lived in Ewing, Illinois until 2013 when they moved to Barnett, Missouri. Corinna was a member of the Ridge View Mennonite Church. She faithfully supported James when he was ordained minister in 2015, and embraced the calling God placed on their lives.
God blessed Corinna and James with five precious children. Corinna loved her babies and enjoyed each stage of watching her children grow. Holding James’s hand with her children all gathered around was her highlight of every day. She loved receiving flowers from James and the children.
Corinna will be remembered for her unselfish heart, often expressing appreciation of how others gave of themselves for the sake of her family. She loved to serve others and always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. God blessed her with the gift of making people feel welcome in her home and in her presence. She loved to sew and her friends will miss her advice about patterns, sewing and covering-making.
Her mother will miss hearing Corinna’s voice across the phone lines each week just to chat and tell her about their everyday lives. James always felt honored hearing Corinna speak of him to her mother. He also treasured the friendship she shared with his mother.
This past Christmas Corinna and her family traveled to British Columbia to spend the Christmas holidays with the Wiens family. She mentioned numerous times, “I hope the next family gathering can be in Missouri. I’ll do ALL the planning, if the rest of the family will JUST COME!” Little did anyone know the planning being done in Heaven!
On May 30, 2020, angels carried Corinna gently HOME to be with her Savior.
She leaves behind her loving husband, James and five precious children – Burnell (15), Ashton (13), Tiffany (9), Kayonna (5), and Jolyssa (4). She will be deeply missed by her parents, John and Olinda Wiens of Chilliwack, British Columbia; her four brothers, Trennis and Brenda of Danskin, British Columbia; Trevor and Fern of Campbell River, British Columbia; Leroy and Marilyn of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Lyndon and Amanda of Black Creek, British Columbia; her parents-in-law, Lee and Fern Allgyer of Whittington, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Marigold and James Zimmerman of Whittington, Illinois; Rosie and Garrison Statt of California, Missouri; Rose and Duane Zimmerman of Ewing, Illinois; three brothers-in-law, Gabriel and Nancy of Klingerstown ,Pennsylvania; Virgil and Sharlene of North East, Pennsylvania; Daniel and Violet of Benton, Illinois; and thirty-seven nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Versailles Mennonite Church. Burial was in Beulah Cemetery, Versailles.
Balsley, Lloyd Earl
October 25, 1929 - June 24, 2020
Lloyd Earl Balsley, 90 of North Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Elkhart, died Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Lee Memorial Health System, Fort Myers. He was born on October 25, 1929 in Walkerton, to Lowell and Lois Balsley. On March 13, 1971 he married Wanda (Hartman) Balsley, she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Brian (Janna) Balsley of Cape Coral, FL, grandchildren, Brock Balsley, Gavin Balsley, siblings, Richard Ritchie, Gordon Balsley, niece, Christine (Tingley) Smith, nephews, Ric Tingley-Brown, and Matthew Charles Bowen.
He was preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters, Louise Tingley, Sue Brown, brother-in-law, Robert Tingley and nephew, Scott Tingley.
Lloyd was a veteran of the United States Army and a manager for an industrial towel service company. He was a member of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. He was also an avid fan of the University of Notre Dame and its athletics and was an usher for football, basketball, and hockey games during his retirement for several years. He also enjoyed boating and camping and had visited numerous national parks and campgrounds across the United States.
Memorial contributions are designated for the Yellow Creek Building Fund, 64901 County Road 11, Goshen, IN 46526.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Balzer, David James, 74, of Whitewater, Harvey Co., KS died March 10, 2020 at Newton, Harvey Co., KS. He was born January 2, 1946 at Newton to Raymond and Pauline (Schroeder) Balzer. On November 25, 1967 at Denver, Denver Co., CO he was married to Donna Schilling, who survives.
Surviving are children, Amy Balzer, and Brian Balzer; and a sister, Kay Schroeder.

Memorial services were held March 14, 2020 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church, Whitewater, KS with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Beach, Mark
April 1, 1955 - September 17, 2020
Mark Beach, 65, of East Petersburg, passed away Thursday evening, September 17, 2020 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. He was born in Darby, PA on April 1, a fitting date, probably, as he had a keenly developed sense of the sublime and the ridiculous. The fourth of seven children, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Edna Beach, and older brother, John Beach. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Naomi; children, Audrey and Wesley; brothers, Bob, David and Chip; sisters, Deborah and Grace, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mark was a globe-circling photographer, writer and videographer and a nonprofit communications manager and strategic planner. He was a loving family guy and a loyal friend with a bear hug, an irresistible laugh and a creative soul. He would always stop whatever he was doing to get the perfect shot. There is an old picture of Mark from southern Africa; hes leaning casually on a railing, sleeves rolled, mountains rising up behind. He might be just starting to grin. Some cool vista lay ahead. Some unsung, poignant narrative. It was his formula. Travel, art and social justice were Marks lifeblood. Raised in Warminster, he spent several formative years (1967-69) in Thailand, where his dad had been transferred. The Vietnam War was burning. Marks heroes were photographers, historians, reporters - the people who held the power brokers to account. He snapped away at first with a Brownie fixed lens camera.
Back home and graduated from Messiah College and Temple University with a degree in radio, TV and film, he launched a freelance photography business. He went on to show his work in fine art galleries in Lancaster. Mennonite Central Committee brought Mark to Lancaster in the 1970s -- and dispatched him to document its ministries around the world. He packed light, carried a small camera and got in close. He employed this same intimate MO as a freelance Lancaster Newspapers "photog" in the 1980s, and as a staff writer for the former Sunday News in the early 1990s. At the Sunday News, he penned sensitive, compelling stories on just about everything under the Lancaster County sun. In 1992 this dedicated news junkie reinvented himself. He studied international journalism at Baylor University and flew to South Africa to complete his masters. Most happily, life reinvented him right back.
Letters home mentioned a "dear friend." Mark and Naomi Vlok Beach, now a teacher, met in an exchange student program in 1993. The couple married in 1995. Audrey was born five years later and Wesley in 2003, coincidentally the same time period when Marks hair started to gray. The family settled in Lancaster, where Mark became MCC director of communications in 2000. Mark kept moving, sometimes filing reports from earthquake zones and remote African villages where he slept on the ground. A journalist buddy who favored five-star hotels joked: Mark Beach never travels anywhere theres indoor plumbing.' But in 2006, the Beaches relocated to the geopolitical epicenter of Europe -- Geneva, Switzerland.
Mark, the new director of communications for the World Council of Churches, now moved in a rarefied milieu --Pope Benedict XVI, for example - and enjoyed an epic view of Marks beloved Alps from his apartment balcony in Genthod. The Beaches explored Europe before returning to Lancaster County at the end of 2014. Mark served three and a half years as communications director for Mennonite Disaster Service. Art remained his passion, inside and outside of the job. A Mark Beach picture or a Mark Beach story was a thing of grace, said retired LNP photographer Dan Marschka. "He was an early adopter of using video at MCC." He had rare talents for visualizing scenes, listening patiently and "seeing deeper inside you than you might see inside yourself." And he moved people to action, including Marschka, whom he recruited for numerous MCC trips in the early 2000s. "I became something I hadnt been" before experiencing the "unpredictability" and beauty of the Developing World, Marschka said. "A citizen of the earth. It was a gift he gave me."
An avowed pacifist, Mark was eternally boyish, insatiably curious and widely read. He cared deeply about his family, the worlds dispossessed and the menace of climate warming, which he documented a few years ago amidst slowly drowning islands in the Pacific. Mark played a mean Gordon Lightfoot on his guitar. He began writing a novel. Near the end of his life his mantra was "Eat, walk, love." One afternoon this past summer, he made the best cheesesteaks anyone has ever tasted. Goofy humor was another of Marks strong suits. "Its good to laugh," he often said, after relating some hilarious incident hed experienced or witnessed. It was. And when remembering this gentle, one-of-a-kind man and his stories from the road, it always will be. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will not be held at this time. Beachey, Lewis A.
May 9, 1943 - October 17, 2020
Lewis A. Beachey, 77, of Topeka, died at 12:45 pm on Saturday, October 17 at his residence following a short illness. He was born on May 9, 1943 in Arthur, IL, to Alvin and Mary (Yoder) Beachey. On December 5, 1968 in Shipshewana, he married Edna Miller; she died July 29, 1997. On September 17, 1998 in Topeka, he married Sara Miller; she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are daughter, Darlene (Glenn) Hostetler of Topeka; three sons, Devon (Cathy) Beachey of Shipshewana, John (Lora) Beachey of Topeka, Richard (Niva) Beachey of Millersburg; 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Beachey of IL, Willis Beachey of Kokomo; sister-in-law, Anita Beachey of Topeka; step sister-in-law, Joan Yoder of Middlebury.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Beachey; parents; brother, Monroe Beachey; two sisters, Katie White and Martha Yoder; a granddaughter.
Lewis was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 12:00 pm noon on Monday, October 19 and all day Tuesday, October 20 at the family residence, 6660 S. 900 W., Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Wednesday, October 21 at the Dale Miller residence, 9305 W. 650 S., Topeka. Services will be conducted by Bishop Glen Lambright and the home ministers. Burial will be in Hawpatch Cemetery, Topeka.
Beachy, Mahlon Jay
November 23, 1938 - June 28, 2020
Mahlon Jay Beachy, 81, of Millersburg, died at 9:00 pm on Sunday, June 28 at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1938 in LaGrange County, to Menno S. and Elizabeth (Yoder) Beachy. On March 2, 1961 in LaGrange County, he married Clara Miller; she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are three daughters, Betty (Ivan) Hershberger of Goshen, Dorothy (Carl) Zook of Burr Oak, MI, Ruth Beachy of Millersburg; son, Elmer (Mary) Beachy of Millersburg; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruby Beachy of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Sadie Mast, Susie Graber, Amanda Petersheim; five brothers, Elmer, Melvin, Daniel, Menno Jr., and Perry Beachy.
Mahlon was a farmer and a minister in the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 12:00 pm noon on Tuesday, June 30 at the Elmer Beachy residence, 10560 W. 400 S., Millersburg. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Wednesday, July 1 also at the Elmer Beachy residence. Services will be conducted by the home ministers. Burial will be in Honeyville Cemetery, Topeka.
Beachy, Marie Miller
September 13, 1926 - July 14, 2020
Marie Beachy, 93, formerly of Goshen, passed away at 12:45 am on Tuesday, July 14, at The Cedars, Leo; after a brief illness. She was born on September 13, 1926 in Midland, MI to John and Sarah (Miller) Miller. On April 10, 1947 in LaGrange County she married Harvey D. Beachy, he died January 14, 2016.
Surviving are four sons, Vernon (Ada) Beachy of Spencerville, Richard (Deborah) Beachy of Laotto, Gene Beachy of Radcliff, KY, Doyle (Terry) Beachy of Goshen; son-in-law, Lynford Myers of Murphysboro, TN; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sara Myers; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Anna Troyer, Delilah Yoder, Clara Swartz, Edna Stutzman; five brothers, Andy, Levi, Jake, Ezra and Clarence Miller; half-sister, Maude Miller and half-brother, William Miller.
Marie was a member of Mt Joy Mennonite Church and was known as a true prayer warrior. She was a homemaker that loved flower and vegetable gardening and enjoyed spending her winters in Florida.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Friday July 17, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Private family services for the immediate family will follow visitation. Services will be conducted by Pastor Ben Shirk. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to Voice of the Martyrs.
Beachy, Nelson Earl
August 26, 1951 - November 18, 2020
Kalona- Nelson Earl Beachy was born August 26, 1951 to Jonas and Magdalena (Hershberger) Beachy. On November 15, 1975 he was united in marriage to Kathy Yoder. Nelson accepted Christ as his savior in his youth. He was ordained minister in 1991, bishop in 1994 and he was a faithful member of the Haven Conservative Mennonite Church until his death.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, eight children: Janice (Dale) Gerber, Mio, MI., Kenneth (Hannah) Beachy, Canton, PA., Michael Beachy, Kalona, Stanley Beachy, Kalona, Janelle (Darrell) Zehr, Listowel, ON, Dorcas (Titus) Near, Brodhead, WI., Judy Beachy, Kenbridge, VA., Mark Beachy, Goodhue, MN., and 18 grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers: David, John, Morris, Norman, and Myron, and four sisters: Rhoda Miller, Esther Miller, Marilyn Miller, and Gloria Steiner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn son Lynn, and a sister Rachel Miller
Funeral Services will held 10:00 am Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Fairview Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Fairview Mennonite Church.

Bear, Raymond Henry
January 9, 1945 - April 11, 2020
Raymond Henry Bear, of Lake Butler, FL and formerly of Amelia, Ohio, age 75 years, 3 months and 2 days, went home to his eternal reward on Saturday (April 11, 2020) after suffering a heart attack. He was born January 9, 1945, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Clarence S. and Mary E. (Brunk) Bear. Dad gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized at the Sharon Mennonite Church at a young age.
On Sept. 16, 1967 he married Elmeda Graber and they made their first home in Baltic, Ohio. After three years there, they moved to Elida, Ohio where Dad was in construction until the death of this oldest brother, Gaylord, in 1981. They then moved their family to Carbon Hill, Ohio to help with the door business for three years. In 1984, we moved to Amelia and Dad started Amelia Overhead Doors there. As the boys grew older, they joined him in business and have many treasured memories of working together. Dad’s last move was to Lake Butler, FL in 2006 where he was helping LaMar and his boys in their door business. He was a very active part of the Sante Fe Mennonite Church at the time of his death. Dad was a servant in work shoes, heartily responding to any need at hand, making sure it was accomplished suitably. An utmost goal was to be a vessel for the furtherance of God’s kingdom. Church participation, family, and grandchildren were his premier assets. He served on the school board many years, which developed a sincere appreciation for that arm of the church. Dad was such a family man and loved people, coffee and eating out. Dad had open heart surgery in 1995 and then had two stents put in in 2018. Mom was such a faithful nurse to Dad through all those years, spending many hours diligently seeing to it that Dad had the best care she could give him.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Elmeda, and their children, LaMar (Nina) of Lake Butler, FL; Lisa (Eldon Hooley) of Barry, Texas; Alfred (Norma) of Goodhue, Minn. and Rosetta (Robert Shank) of Jetersville, Ohio. He will be sadly missed by their 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, whom he loved dearly. Also surviving are his two brother and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and three brothers.
Our family has been blessed so richly by Dad’s faithfulness and the example his life was to us. We have a storehouse of many treasured memories of family times together.
A graveside service is planned for Friday (April 17) at Sante Fe Mennonite Church Cemetery at 11am. The family invites friends for a drive-through viewing beginning at 9am at the church. A public memorial service will be planned at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Archer Funeral Home, Lake Butler.
Bechtel, Edna Mae Yoder
July 16, 1925 - December 30, 2020
Edna Mae Bechtel, 95, of Goshen, died at 3:18 pm, on Wednesday, December 30 at Goshen Health Hospital. She was born on July 16, 1925, in Reno County, KS, to Ervin J. and Barbara Ann (Eash) Yoder. On November 22, 1945 in Middlebury, she married Clarence Leroy Bechtel; he died January 21, 1995.
Surviving are three sons, Devon (LaVerda) Bechtel of Goshen, Allen (Claudette) Bechtel of Waukesha, WI, Merlin (Sue) Bechtel of Kendallville; five daughters, Rosetta (Elmer) Beachy, Violet (Wayne) Miller, Barbara (Ezra) Mast all of Goshen, Lillian (Robert) Riegsecker of Middlebury, Joyce (Laban) Miller of Goshen; 26 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Ellen Miller, Bertha Bontrager-Rhodes both of Goshen; brother, Wilbur (Evelyn) Yoder of Goshen; sister-in-law, Gail Yoder of Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Sylvia Miller, Lydia Ann Miller; brother, Perry Yoder; son-in-law, Dale Schrock and a great-grandson.
Edna accepted the Lord at a young age and served faithfully as a member of Griner Church, where she was the longest active member. She was very active in the sewing circle and teaching Sunday School. She and her husband spent one year in service at Red Lake, ONT, Canada with the Northern Lights Gospel Mission plus they made many trips to help with Mennonite Disaster Services (MDS). Edna also enjoyed grading Bible Courses from prisoners for the Gospel Echoes Prison Ministry and she was known for her warm hospitality. She was still actively sewing and making blankets for relief.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 3 at Griner Church, 12418 CR 20, Middlebury. The family will hold a private funeral service at 10:00 am on Monday, January 4 at Griner Church. Services will be conducted by son-in-law, Pastor Robert Riegsecker and grandson, Pastor Chris Bechtel. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to Gospel Echoes, Crusades for Christ Africa Ministries, Griner Missions or World Missionary Press.
Begly, Edna Grace Wenger
December 30, 1920 - May 31, 2020
Edna Grace (Wenger) Begly, 99, of Chester Township passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at her home.
She was born on December 30, 1920 to Joseph M. and Annie (Good) Wenger and was a lifelong resident of Chester Township. She married Ivan Begly on January 1, 1940. The shared 65 years of marriage before he passed away in 2005.
She very much enjoyed gardening and being outdoors and she made many quilts. She loved to bless other people with gifts. She was a member of Chester Christian Fellowship.
Edna is survived by children, Joanne (Paul) Richard, Janet (Virgil) Weaver and Darla (Mervin) Sadler, all of Wooster, Esther (Erwin) Amstutz of Dalton, Dwight Begly, and son-in-law Alvin (Clara) Nussbaum of Kidron; 28 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph G. (Dorothy) Wenger; sister, Emma Wenger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ivan; a daughter, Elaine (Alvin) Nussbaum; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; and brothers, Paul Wenger and Earl Wenger.

The family would like to thank Hospice and all who have helped with kind deeds, encouragement, and prayers.

Beiler, Naomi S. Beiler
August 14, 1927 - July 8, 2020
Naomi S. Beiler, age 92, formerly of Kinzers, entered into rest at the Lincoln Christian Home of Ephrata, on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. Naomi was born in Gordonville to the late Reuben and Emma Stoltzfus Beiler. She was married to Aaron E. Beiler in 1948. They spent over 60 years together until his passing in 2009. She was a member of Mine Road Amish Mennonite Church. Naomi enjoyed sewing for the church sewing circle and for many mission projects, also piecing many comfort tops and crocheting.
Surviving are 4 sons: Vernon (Liz Fisher) Beiler of Paradise, Arthur (Fannie Beachy) Beiler of Burgettstown, Marlin (Gloria Stutzman) Beiler of Paradise, Naaman (Louise Martin) Beiler of Gulf Breeze, FL, 14 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Marie wife of the late Henry Zook of Goshen, IN, Ruth (Dave Martin) of Pine Falls, Manitoba, Canada, Paul (Elsie Smoker) Beiler of Ephrata. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Orpha Joy and a son, Floyd, brother, Leroy, 3 great-grandchildren and 1 step great-grandchild.
The viewing will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 11th at the Mine Road Amish, Mennonite Church, 5101 Mine Road, Kinzers, PA, followed by the funeral and burial at 3 p.m. This will all take place outdoors under a tent, and you are welcome to bring your own chair.

Bender, Julianna Bontrager
June 13, 1948 - February 13, 2020
Julianna Bender, 71, of Goshen, died on February 13, 2020 after an 11-month journey with cancer. She was born on June 13, 1948 in Sturgis, Michigan to Tobias and Erma (Eash) Bontrager. She grew up on a farm south of Middlebury and graduated from Middlebury High School in 1966. She attended Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, Virginia, from 1968-70, and in 1980 graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in Psychology. In 1982 she received a Masters in Social Work degree from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Alongside her studies, Julie worked at First State Bank, Middlebury; First National Bank, Goshen; Northeastern Center, Lagrange; and Das Dutchman Essenhaus, Middlebury.
Several months of study and service with Youth With A Mission in Texas and Belize in 1984-85 were transformative in her life.
On August 10, 1986, Julie married Philip Bender in Goshen. She moved with him to Altona, Manitoba, where she supported him in his work as a teacher at the Elim Bible Institute and also taught some classes.
In 1988, Julie and Philip undertook an assignment with the Mennonite Board of Missions to Ghana, West Africa, where they taught pastors of African Initiated Churches at the Good News Training Institute in Accra.
Returning to Canada in 1993, Julie and Philip co-pastored two Ontario Mennonite churches: Zurich (1993-97) and Hamilton (1997-2004). In Hamilton Julie also gave early leadership to Circles of Support and Accountability, a program of Mennonite Central Committee which assists sex offenders in reintegrating into society. This experience gave birth to an interest in restorative justice that she pursued to the end of her life.
In 2004, Julie and Philip accepted another international mission assignment, this time to China with Mennonite Partners in China and Mennonite Church Canada. They taught English at universities in Chongqing and Dazhou for 9 years, until mid-2013. A blessing of these China years was acquiring several Chinese godchildren, whom they visited on three later return trips to China.
Julie and Philip moved back to Goshen in August, 2016. During a voluntary service assignment at Eastern Mennonite University from September 2016 to August 2017, Julie became part of the Valley Justice Coalition of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Her advocacy on behalf of prison inmates led to an article she wrote for Sojourners magazine under the title, “Who Pays for Prison? “
In retirement Julie served as a Caring Friend volunteer at Greencroft Retirement Center, and continued to pursue her interests in home decorating, restorative justice, counseling, reading and spiritual direction. Her delicious homemade pies were renowned.
Julie will be remembered by her many local and international friends for her warm and vibrant spirit, her delight in homemaking and hosting guests, her strong faith, and her heart for those on the margins of society.
She is survived by her husband Philip; a brother, Merle (Barbara) Bontrager of Goshen; a sister, Sharon Kennell of Plainfield, Indiana; and two nieces and three nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, with Pastors Rachel Nafziger Hartzler and Pamela Yoder leading.
A private family burial will take place at a later time in Griner Cemetery, Middlebury.

Bender, Julianna Bontrager, 71, of Middlebury, Elkhart Co., IN died February 13, 2020 at Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN from cancer. She was born June 13, 1948 at Sturgis, St. Josepha Co., MI to Tobias and Erma (Eash) Bontrager. On August 10, 1986 at Goshen she was married to Philip Bender, who survives.
Surviving are a brother, Merle (Barbara) Bontrager of Goshen; and a sister, Sharon Kennell of Plainfield, Indiana.
Julie grew up on a farm south of Middlebury and graduated from Middlebury High School in 1966. She attended Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, Virginia, from 1968-70, and in 1980 graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in Psychology. In 1982 she received a Masters in Social Work degree from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Alongside her studies, Julie worked at First State Bank, Middlebury; First National Bank, Goshen; Northeastern Center, Lagrange; and Das Dutchman Essenhaus, Middlebury.
Several months of study and service with Youth With A Mission in Texas and Belize in 1984-85 were transformative in her life.
Julie moved with Philip to Altona, Manitoba, where she supported him in his work as a teacher at the Elim Bible Institute and also taught some classes.
In 1988, Julie and Philip undertook an assignment with the Mennonite Board of Missions to Ghana, West Africa, where they taught pastors of African Initiated Churches at the Good News Training Institute in Accra.

Bender, Leona M. Miller
December 8, 1929 - December 14, 2020
Leona M. Bender, 91, of Valley View Terrace, Belleville, passed away on December 14, 2020, at the Haven following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Bender, in 2009, a son, Kevin Ray Bender, a grandson Ryan Bender and a son-in-law Roger Arnold. Born in Grantsville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Roy N. and Viola M. (Wiley) Miller.
Leona was primarily a homemaker, but this also extended to her being a quiet partner with Paul in his watch repair and tax preparation businesses as well as in his pastoral duties. She also had a prayer covering business for the local Mennonite community. She was a member of Barrville Mennonite Church.
Surviving are six children: Lois A. Arnold, Bronx, NY, John P. married to Mildred Bender, Greensboro, NC, L. Roy married to Connie Bender, Lancaster, PA, Titus W. Bender, and companion Amy Brandt, Belleville, PA, Miriam D. married to John Ferguson, Mechanicsville, VA, and Loren E. married to Judy Bender, New Holland, PA, 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Virginia married to Allen Brenneman, Springs, PA and Darlene Miller, Grantsville, MD.
Her service will be private due to the pandemic, with burial in Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, P.O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501. Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville.
Bender, Naomi Hertzler
September 8, 1929 - November 13, 2020
Naomi Hertzler Bender died on November 13, 2020 at the home of her daughter Jan and surrounded by her husband and children Linda, Jan and Jon. She lived at Waterford Crossing in Goshen since 2010 and is survived by her husband of 67 years, John, who cared for her until her death.
Naomi was born on September 8, 1929 to Aldus and Ellen (Kratz) Hertzler in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the sixth child of seven [Emanuel (Myrtle Schnell), Sara, Aldus (Ruth Alderfer), Paul (Carolyn Weaver), Elam (Lois Shank), Naomi, Ruth (Galen Swope)]. They moved to the city to be part of the Norristown Mennonite mission church and her father worked in a delicatessen. Naomi trained and worked as a secretary after graduating from Norristown High School and made her way to Goshen College through her own initiative and determination where she graduated in 1953 with a BA in Elementary Education.
She met John Bender in college and they were married soon after graduation. They moved to Philadelphia for John’s medical school and she taught kindergarten for a while before having children (Linda in 1955 and Jan in 1956) and moved again for residency and work in York, PA and Snow Hill, MD. From 1958-60 they volunteered with Mennonite Central Committee in Haiti to help start a hospital in Grande Riviere du Nord. Naomi kept the unit house of volunteers going with meals, beds and care as well as raising her young girls. This was a big learning experience and launched them on a lifetime of travel and service around the world.
They returned to the US to settle in Goshen, Indiana, where John joined High Park Physicians and Naomi dedicated herself to teaching, raising children, with Jon born in 1962, church and social involvements. They were members and served in various ways at College Mennonite Church. During their years in Goshen they took a sabbatical year in San Francisco in 1967-68 where Naomi enjoyed taking her children to explore the beaches, museums, parks and city sites as well as taking classes in Chinese cooking and home decorating. Again in 1973 they took another year in Salt Lake City and ended up moving to Ogden, Utah.
During the years in Utah, Naomi and John enjoyed hiking, backpacking, camping and skiing to explore the mountains and canyons. Naomi was always an avid sewer and knitter and during these years took classes in weaving, joined weaving and knitting groups and produced a huge range of sweaters, blankets and wall hangings for her family and friends. They joined the Presbyterian Church where Naomi served on various committees. She also did volunteer work to welcome Hmong refugees coming through church sponsorship, taught adult literacy and served as President of SHARE, an organization that distributed food to those in need.
They moved to Ogden Canyon in 1980 where Naomi oversaw a home and visits from family in a beautiful natural setting. During these years they also did short term volunteer work with Mennonite and Presbyterian medical organizations and did other travel in Vietnam, Nepal, Ethiopia, Thailand, Kenya, India, Cambodia and the Philippines. On these trips Naomi often taught English to national staff or advised arts and crafts programs that provided income for handicapped patients. They also traveled to visit Linda’s family in Ireland, Jan’s family in Ethiopia and Tanzania, and Jon’s family in Alaska and California.
In 1999 they moved to Dolores, Colorado to be near Jan’s family and built a straw-bale house overlooking a reservoir and the San Juan Mountains where they enjoyed a peaceful retreat, good neighbors and service on the Native American reservations and with archeological preservation. Naomi continued her love of beauty by home decorating, weaving and knitting. They lived there until returning to Goshen in 2010 to be nearer to family and moved to Waterford Crossing.
Naomi is survived by her husband John M. Bender, her three children Linda Liechty (Joe), Jan Shetler (Peter), Jon Bender (Shirley Soulouman); seven grandchildren Anna Liechty Sawatzky (Joe), Jacob Liechty Curtis (Michelle), Aaron Liechty (Kelli Kol), Dan Shetler (Maytal Saltiel), Paul Shetler Fast (Rebecca Fast), Delilah Bender, Mathia Bender; ten great grandchildren Isaac Sawatzky, Moses Sawatzky, Levi Sawatzky, Jesse Sawatzky, Fionn Liechty, Aislinn Liechty, Ari Shetler, Lena Shetler, Madeline Shetler Fast, Gideon Shetler Fast; one brother Elam Hertzler (Janet Hyman), and four in-laws Ruth Hertzler, Carolyn Hertzler, Galen Swope (Miriam Nauman) and Jan Bender (Weldon).
Naomi’s memorial service will be livestreamed from College Mennonite Church at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 with a Zoom reception to follow.

Benner, Harold D.
June 23, 1930 - July 2, 2020
Harold D. Benner, 90, formerly of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 2, 2020 at Windsor House at Snyder Memorial Health Care Center in Marienville after a period of declining health. Born in Bird-in-Hand, he was the son of the late Floyd H. and Esther B. Landis Benner.
In his earlier year, Harold was an actively involved member of Hershey Mennonite Church in Kinzers. He was a high school graduate and completed courses in ministry studies. He was employed as a farm laborer for various farmers in Lancaster County.
Harold is survived by two brothers, Paul B., husband of Shirley A. Benner, of Manheim and Vernon L. Benner of Lancaster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Melvin L. Benner, Raymond L. Benner, Leroy R. Benner, and Mildred M. Brackbill.

Bergey, Pauline Kooker
May 25, 1936 - December 13, 2020
Pauline (Kooker) Bergey, 84, of Lansdale, formerly of Green Lane, PA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13th, 2020 at 431 Delaware Avenue.
She was the loving wife of the late Ray Donald Bergey Sr. for 65 years. Pauline was born in Sellersville, PA to the late Abraham, Sr. and Katie (Histand) Kooker.
Pauline was employed as a seamstress at His Nibs during the early 1950’s and at Schoeneman Clothing Company in the late 1960’s after which she was a homemaker and also worked with her husband painting and bookkeeping for his self employed painting business.
A former member of Rockhill Mennonite Church, she taught VBS at Finland, Rockhill, and Lansdale Mennonite Churches. She was also active in the sewing circles at Rockhill and at Lansdale Mennonite, where she has been a member since the 1980’s.
Pauline enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Making meals, especially pies, for gatherings with her family and caring for grandchildren or great-children was her delight.
The family sang together at church events and in nursing homes with Pauline carrying the soprano melody. During the 1970’s and early 1980’s she was very involved with the activities departments at Rockhill and Souderton Mennonite Homes. She spent many hours crocheting and was especially well known for her scrubbies and potholders. She and her late husband visited frequently with friends and shut-ins. They wintered in Florida for over 36 years, serving as volunteers at Lakewood Retreat during the 1980’s.
She is survived by her two sons, Ray D. Bergey Jr. and wife Mary of Telford, PA and, Larry D. Bergey and wife Linda of Lansdale, PA; her daughter, Kathy A. Bergey of Canadensis, PA; and her fourteen grandchildren, (Janine, Rachel, Jason, Laura, Lucinda, Joanna, Larry Joel, Amy, Nathaniel, Nevin, Benjamin, Bethany, Seth and Susanna), her nineteen great-grandchildren,; her sister, Ruth Yoder of Telford, PA;
In addition to her husband, Ray Donald Sr., she was preceded in death by her infant granddaughter and grandson, Andrew; her three brothers, Abraham, Jr., Joseph and Richard Kooker.
Viewings will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Lansdale Mennonite Church, 520 York Avenue, Lansdale, PA 19446 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow, also at Lansdale Mennonite Church, at 7 p.m. Burial will take place at Franconia Mennonite Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19.
Berkey, Weldon A.

Weldon A. Berkey, 86, of Goshen, died Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born December 7, 1934 in Goshen to Arthur and Lucille (Hess) Berkey.
On March 28, 1958 he married Jacquelyn M. Gray in Goshen.
She survives along with two children, Sheila (John) Cuneo of Derry, New Hampshire and Scott (Laura) Berkey of Goshen; five grandchildren, Matt and Evan Cuneo, Heather (Alex) Doberenz, Jennifer (Chase) Borden and Logan (Krista) Berkey; three great-grandchildren, Elliott and Alyah Doberenz and Nora Borden; and a sister, Esther Cender of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Miller.
Mr. Berkey served two years of 1W service in Portland, Maine and worked as parts manager for Shasta Industries. He was an active member of East Goshen Mennonite Church where he led the youth group, taught Sunday school and volunteered at the Bread of Life Pantry.
Mr. Berkey enjoyed bowling, playing and coaching fast pitch softball, fishing and tinkering with boats. He enjoyed Bethel College and Indiana University basketball.
Visitation will be Monday, December 14, 2020, from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Merle Hostetler will officiate. The service will be live streamed through East Goshen Mennonite Church website.
Burial will follow in Hess Cemetery.

Birky, Doris Susanna Lambright
January 1, 1924 - September 13, 2020
Doris Susanna Birky, 86, of Shipshewana, passed away on Sunday, September 13 at her residence. She was born January 1, 1934 in LaGrange County to Evan and Clara (Speicher) Lambright. On May 4, 1954 at Shore Church she married Ivan R. Birky, he survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, Marleen (Tom Daley) Birky of Painesville Township, OH, Kevin Birky of Clearwater, FL, and Melinda (Cory) Brown of Shipshewana; four grandchildren, Autumn, Adam, Evan and Carson; a sister, Rachel Troyer.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lois Hooley, Ruth Miller and Evelyn Hostetler.
Doris attended Goshen College for one year and then received her LPN in nursing from the Indianapolis School of Nursing. She worked at LaGrange Hospital for 10 years. After leaving the hospital, she volunteered for the American Red Cross when they did blood drives. Doris loved hosting people in their home and in 1992 she created Birky's Country Garden's Bed and Breakfast, hosting people from near and far until her retirement in 2011. Doris was an active member of Shore Church where she helped in many ways; including, youth sponsor, Bible School teacher, attending the sewing circle and serving on the stewardship commission. Doris enjoyed her flower gardens and having family come over. She was loved by her family and blessed especially by her grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, September 18, at the Farmstead Inn and Conference Center, Shipshewana. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday. Services will be conducted by Pastors Carl Horner and Nic Raber. Memorial contributions may be given to the Rainbow Years Learning Ministry.
Bixler, Timothy Bucher
December 31, 1990 - November 22, 2020
Timothy Bucher Bixler was born in Millersburg, OH on December 31, 1990. He had an extraordinary musical talent and an infectious laugh. He enjoyed soccer and running, lettering in Cross country and track in high school. He graduated from Warren Central High School (2009), Hesston (KS) College (2013) and Goshen (IN) College (2015). He held a variety of jobs in Goshen, Harrisonburg, VA, and Timothy died in Indianapolis, IN on November 22, 2020.
He is survived by his parents, Sam and Carol Bixler; brother, Eric; sister, Analisa; sister-in-law, Mary Laura; nephew, Lukas; niece, Margaux. He was also loved by extended family, his family of origin and the Shalom Mennonite Church family.
No services are being planned during this time of COVID. Memorials suggested to: Hoosiers Concerned About Gun Violence, Horizon House, Mennonite Mission Network, and Mennonite Central Committee. Indiana Memorial was honored to serve Bixler family.

IMPD arrested 22-year-old Richard Johnson for a murder that happened at an east side motel on Sunday, Nov. 22. Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the Budget 8 Inn on East 21st Street near Shadeland Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. and found 29-year-old Timothy Bixler in a room on the second floor. Bixler was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. Detectives have not shared a motive in the killing. Detectives released a surveillance image of two people of interest. It is not clear if that led to police identifying Johnson. He was arrested on a murder charge and the prosecutor will make a final decision on charges.
Blosser, Denver John
March 15, 1998 - May 2, 2020
Denver John Blosser, beloved son of Edwin and Karla (Shrock) Blosser was born on March 15, 1998, at Tampico, IL. He went to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of May 2, 2020.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his sorrowing parents; two brothers, Todd and wife Mindy, Trevis and wife Kimberly; three sisters, Kenya and husband Mark Kropf, Krystal and husband Duane Baker, and Keisha at home; seven nephews; six nieces; six uncles; and seven aunts.
Respect will be given to the current situation. Burial will be in the Fairfield Amish-Mennonite Cemetery. Even though he will be greatly missed, we sorrow not as those who have no hope.

Boll, Sara Ann Swartzentruber
June 8, 1933 - October 11, 2020
Sara Ann Boll, 87, of Stevens, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital. She was the wife of the late Luke B. Boll who died in 2015. Born in Christiana, she was the daughter of the late Ephraim and Anna Smoker Swartzentruber.
Sara Ann was a homemaker and a member of Rawlinsville Mennonite Church where she served as a deacon's wife. She enjoyed God's natural world and had special fondness for flowers, gardening, and birds. She was resourceful and creative, and expressed her creativity by trying many new crafts. Sara Ann appreciated beauty, taking time to enjoy sunsets and hiking with her children. She was skilled in restoring antique furniture. Sara Ann enjoyed reading, special trips, and spending time with family.
Surviving are five children, Gerald L. husband of Esther Martin Boll of Stevens, Anita R. wife of John Peachey of Manheim, Sharon K. wife of Randy Martin of Denver, Linda J. wife of Timothy Stoltzfus of Watsontown, and Louetta J. wife of Dean Good of New Providence; 27 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Calvin husband of Susie Swartzentruber of Parkesburg. She was preceded in death by siblings Earl, Lester, Leo and Mary Swartzentruber and Verna Howe.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 16, at 10:00 A.M. at the Rawlinsville Mennonite Church, 838 Susquehannock Drive, Holtwood, PA with Pastors Paul Hess, John Reeser and Timothy Stoltzfus officiating. Clarence M. Bontrager, 83, of South Hutchinson, KS, formerly of Goshen, died December 7, at his home. He was born June 22, 1937, in Middlebury, to Moses and Edna (Graber) Bontrager. Clarence was a farmer, electrician, and retired pastor. He was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, New Paris, and attended Word of Life Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson, KS. On July 25, 1958, Clarence married Lydia J. Bontrager, in Goshen, IN. She died February 8, 2018.
He is survived by: sons, Merv Bontrager, South Hutchinson, KS, Devon Bontrager (Katherine), Wheatland, WY; daughters, Evelyn Harshbarger (Ralph), Wheatland, WY, Miriam Bontrager, Spooner, WI; nine grandchildren; brother, Gerald Bontrager, Ithaca, NE; sisters, Fannie Mast (Leroy), Mountain View, AR, Lydann Miller (William), Sarasota, FL, Alice Hochstetler (Willis), Nappanee, Vera Miller, Thomasville, GA, Treva Fournier (Peter), Jones, MI; and sister-in-law, Claudia Bontrager, Anderson. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Glen; brother, Floyd; and brother-in-law, Richard Miller.
Clarence was ordained into the ministry at Woodlawn Amish Mennonite Church in April, 1976. Several years after his ordination, he was sent to Berea Christian Fellowship, Nappanee. He was ordained as Bishop at Berea Christian Fellowship in 1986, where he faithfully served until his retirement in 2013. It was after his retirement that he attended Salem Mennonite Church.
A funeral service was held on Friday, December 11 in South Hutchinson, KS. Another funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, at Salem Mennonite Church, 23984 CR 46, New Paris. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, and 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday, at the church. October 3, 1935 - February 21, 2020
Elmer Leroy Bontrager, 84, of Middlebury, passed away at 10:40 am on Friday, February 21, at Doctors Hospital, Sarasota, FL due to kidney failure. He was born on October 3, 1935 in Rogers, ND to Harry and Amelia (Yoder) Bontrager. On May 12, 1957 in Goshen he married Esther Hershberger, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons, Richard (Ella) Bontrager of Topeka, Lamar (Joanna) Bontrager of Wolcottville; three daughters, Bertha Bontrager, Laura Bontrager both of Middlebury, Gloria (Galen) Nissley of Millersburg; 26 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susanna Miller and Rhoda Mae Miller both of Constantine, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Galen Bontrager; three infant siblings; brother-in-law, Ora Miller.
Elmer was a dairy farmer for most of his life and in retirement delivered doors for Four Woods Laminating. He was a member of Rosewood Fellowship and he and his wife had wintered for over 10 years in Sarasota Florida. Ida Fern Bontrager, 72, Goshen, died 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Goshen Hospital. She was born July 24, 1947 in Goshen, to Manasses & Lydia Ann (Schrock) Bontrager.
Surviving are siblings, Glen (Katie) Bontrager, Bremen, Wayne (Wanda) Bontrager, Goshen, Richard (Joyce) Bontrager, Millersburg, Ruth (Chuck) Yankey, Millersburg, David (Elsa) Bontrager, Goshen, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, niece, Glenda Todd and stepmother, Fannie Bontrager.
Ida worked in home health care and was an Amish taxi driver.

Ida T. (Yoder) Bontrager, 81, of LaGrange, died unexpectedly at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29, at her son, Alvin Yoder's residence in LaGrange. She was born on May 7, 1938 in LaGrange County to Tobias U. and Lizzie Ann (Miller) Miller. On December 10, 1957 she married Elmer T. Yoder, he died September 17, 1992; then on March 6, 2005 she married Daniel S. Bontrager, he survives.

Judy Bontrager, 79, of Shipshewana, passed away on Monday, October 19, at her residence, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on September 6, 1941 in LaGrange to Levi and Mandy (Gingerich) Jones. On May 2, 1963 in Shipshewana she married Josey J. Bontrager; he survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Heidi Salome Hostetler; two brothers, Paul and John Edward Jones.
In addition to being a full time mother, Judy co-founded several successful businesses with her husband; including, Josey's Woodworking, now known as Miller Carriage, and Shipshewana Pallet, now a part of PalletOne. She volunteered on projects at Menno-Hof, was a board member of the Covenant Choir prison ministry, and served in many positions at Woodlawn Church, of which she was a 35 plus year member. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, singing, reading, and was in the process of sewing quilts for each grandchild at the time of her death. She cherished family times and hosted many large extended family reunions. She especially enjoyed attending many cross country meets and running events to support her children, grandchildren, and extended family members.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 21, and 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, October 22, at Fairhaven Mennonite Church, 13513 State Road 4 Goshen. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, October 23, also at the church. Services will be conducted by Woodlawn Mennonite Church ministry team and Pastor Merlin Miller. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to Menno-Hof. The family and funeral home kindly request that anyone with flulike symptoms not attend the services, but would support the family by visiting them at a later date to express their condolences.
Bontrager, Kevin Robert
March 29, 1993 - October 28, 2020
Kevin Robert Bontrager of Salem, OR died Oct. 28, 2020. He was 27. Kevin was born March 29, 1993 in Harrisonburg, VA to Robert and Beth (Gerig) Bontrager. An outdoor gathering was held Nov. 1 for friends and family in Kevin's hometown of Corvallis, OR.
Kevin graduated from Western Mennonite High School (Salem, OR) in 2011. He joined a group of peers for a gap year program called Outtatown before starting college. During that formative year Kevin did a number of service projects throughout Canada and then traveled to South Africa for the remainder of the program. A highlight was meeting Desmond Tutu and being served communion by him.
In the Fall of 2012 Kevin attended Seattle Pacific University, completing two years before taking time off after his father, Bob, died in 2014. More recently he attended Western Oregon University and had one year left for his undergrad degree.
Kevin had many passions; he was an excellent writer and musician, and pursued both in college. He enjoyed working at Broadway Coffee in Salem, at the Bike Peddler assembling bikes, and delivering for Steel Bridge Coffee. He loved making music with friends and composing original songs. Kevin also loved adventure. In 2016 he and a friend traveled together for four months throughout Asia. Kevin was kind, compassionate, and intentional. He valued his friendships greatly.
Although Kevin had many gifts and talents, he struggled with depression and anxiety. He sought help but was unable to learn how to cope. Missing him deeply are his mother, Beth Bontrager (husband Tim Graber; Hurley, SD), brother Jesse (wife Betsy and children Felix and Abigail, Phoenix, AZ), sister Erin (Minneapolis, MN), and many extended family members.

Mary Fern Bontrager, age 54, of Nappanee, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2020 unexpectedly at her residence of natural causes. She was born February 15, 1966 in Sturgis, Michigan to Samuel W. and Bessie (Yoder) Bontrager. She moved to Nappanee in 2002. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Mary Fern was an office worker for Sunlight Creations.
She is survived by her parents, Samuel and Bessie Bontrager, Nappanee; brothers, Samuel (Martha) Bontrager, Kaleva, MI, Duane (Ruth) Bontrager, Milford, Edwin (Martha) Bontrager, Milford, William (Sharon) Bontrager, Nappanee; 38 nieces and nephews; 22 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Bontrager and infant brother; and a sister, Joanna Bontrager.

Mose W. Bontrager age 30 of Bronson passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at Ascension Borgess Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mose was born on February 5, 1990 in Leonidas, a son of William and Rosanna (Miller) Bontrager.

Bontrager, Rachel Celeste Yoder

Rachel Celeste (Yoder) Bontrager passed away on December 3, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Manor, 600 W Blanchard RD, South Hutchinson, Kansas.
She was born September 30, 1922, to Jacob E. and Anna Miller Yoder. She was the youngest of eight children. Rachel was a lifetime resident of the Yoder/Hutchinson area.
She belonged to Yoder Mennonite Church and was a member of the Women's Sewing Circle, both at Yoder. Rachel was a homemaker most of her life but also cleaned homes for others in Hutchinson and was the head cook at Elreka Grade School, southwest of Hutchinson.
On June 21, 1941, she married Morris C. Bontrager. They were married for 68 years. He died December 5, 2009.
Survivors include: five children Chlo Ann Helmuth (Merlyn), Denver, CO, Elli Franz (Dale), Olathe, Jane Balzer (Loren), Buhler, Gene Bontrager (Jody), Arlington, Jay Bontrager (Kimberly), Pretty Prairie; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris; a son, Galen; her parents; three brothers, Toby, Eddie, and Mosie Yoder; four sisters, Polly Bontrager, Suzie Schrock, Lizzie Troyer, and Sarah Yoder.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2020 at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. Family will not be present. Private interment will be held at Yoder Mennonite Church Cemetery. Rebecca Jean Bontrager, 47, of LaGrange, died at 11:00 pm on Sunday, July 19 at her residence. She was born on December 22, 1972 in Shipshewana, to Harvey, Jr. and Bonnie (Troyer) Stutzman. On September 15, 1994 in Shipshewana, she married Mahlon Dean Bontrager; he survives.

Vernon D. Bontrager, 98, of Middlebury, died at 6:28 pm, on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Green House Village, Blueberry Hill. He was born on November 21, 1921, in Shipshewana, to David and Lydia (Miller) Bontrager. On January 21, 1943 in Shipshewana he married Nettie M. Schrock; she died April 8, 2015.
Surviving are four daughters, Eileen (Alvin) Miller of Goshen, Ruby (Richard) Beachy of Texas, Phyllis Ramer of Florida, Arloa (Rohrer Bomberger) Bontrager of Goshen; daughter-in-law, Patty Bontrager of Arkansas; three sons, Leonard Bontrager of Rochester, Clifford Bontrager of Arkansas, Myron (Dana) Bontrager of Goshen; 18 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren; two sisters, Alma (Ammon) Miller of Topeka, Fannie (Crist) Lambright of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Glendon Bontrager, his parents, three sisters, Anna Schrock, Wilma Miller, Ida Miller and two brothers, Clarence Bontrager and Levi Bontrager.
He was a member of Roselawn Conservative Mennonite and had served 4 years at Bethel Camp in Rowdy, KY and several years on the Church Mission Board. He was a farmer, worked for Starcraft and most recently for Petrolane Gas Co. retiring in 1987. During his retirement years, he enjoyed grading Bible Study Lessons for the Gospel Echos Prison Ministries.
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no services or viewing. A private family service will be conducted. Burial will take place at Miller Cemetery. A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Gospel Echoes or Galilean Children's.

Wilma O. Bontrager, 69, of Shipshewana, died at 5:30 am on Wednesday, September 9 at her residence, after a one year battle with cancer. She was born on October 2, 1950 in Howe, to Ora E. and Anna N. (Troyer) Hochstetler. On August 21, 1969 in LaGrange County, she married Glen D. Bontrager; he survives.

Gene Bontreger, 89, of Goshen, IN and formerly of LaGrange, IN, died November 28, 2020, at Courtyard Healthcare Center in Goshen, IN.
Mr. Bontreger was born on July 5, 1931, in Nappanee, IN to Mose J. and Millie (Yoder) Bontreger.
Living most of his lifetime in LaGrange County, he was a farmer and drove a truck for Lambright’s Hatchery for many years.
He was a member of Emma Church in Topeka, IN.
On October 16, 1954, in Wakarusa, IN he married Alma Schrock; she preceded him in death on February 5, 2014.
Surviving are his three sons, Tim (Jean) Bontreger of White Pigeon, MI, Ron and JoAnn Bontreger of LaGrange, IN, and Rick and Jenny Bontreger of Goshen, IN; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Rosetta Miller of Sarasota, FL, Edwin Bontreger of Rensselaer, IN, and Ken Bontreger of Elkhart, IN.
Along with his wife and his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his siblings, Katie Irene Metzger, Omer Bontreger, and Mose Bontreger, Jr.
A celebration of life for Gene will take place at a later date.
Burial will take place privately at Shore Cemetery in Shipshewana, IN.

Ada E. Borkholder, age 81, of Nappanee, passed away at 10:40 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at her nephews residence. She was born May 2, 1938 in Marshall County to Eli J. and Catherine J. (Coblentz) Borkholder. Ada was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a sister, Amanda (Mervin) Lapp, Quaker City, OH; and a brother, Raymond Borkholder, Nappanee. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel, Jacob, Menno, Joseph and John Henry Borkholder; sisters, Anna Ropp, Sara Borkholder, Emma Miller, and Clara Hochstetler.

He was born June 23, 1941 in Bremen, IN to John A. and Sarah (Miller) Borkholder. On October 15, 1964 he married Elnora L. Miller. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Mary Ellen Borkholder, age 82, of Bremen, passed away at 4:30 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2020 at her residence. She was born April 3, 1938 in Topeka, IN to Joe J. and Fannie M. (Miller) Miller. On October 10, 1957 she married Tobias J. Borkholder in Etna Green. He preceded her in death January 18, 2000. Mary was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. She was a homemaker and a quilter. She was a lifelong area resident.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday, August 17th, also at the Everett Borkholder residence. Home Ministries of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Road Cemetery.

November 13, 1946 - December 14, 2020
Raymond E. “R.E.” Borkholder, age 74, of Nappanee, died at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 14, 2020 at his residence after a 6 week illness. He was born November 13, 1946 in Bremen to Eli Jay and Catherine (Coblentz) Borkholder. On May 24, 1967, he married Wilma I. Hochstetler in Nappanee. She preceded him in death December 6, 2019.
Mr. Borkholder was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving are his children, Sylvia (Aaron) Stutzman, Etna Green, Alvin Borkholder, New Paris, John (Elizabeth) Borkholder, Norma (Daniel) Jones, both of Nappanee, Ruby (Andrew) Chupp, Etna Green, Teresa (Joseph) Miller, Goshen, Nathan (Lawanda) Borkholder, Nappanee, Wilma (David) Miller, Millersburg, Raymond (Christina) Borkholder, Nappanee, Matthew (Diane) Borkholder, New Paris, Dawn (Special friend, Steward Hummel) Borkholder, Nappanee, Regina (Dylan) Nissley, Goshen, Lisa (Myron) Miller, Nappanee; 44 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sister, Amanda (Mervin) Lapp, Quaker City, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Daniel, Jacob, Menno, Joseph, and John Henry Borkholder; and sisters, Ada Borkholder, Anna Ropp, Sara Borkholder, Emma Miller, and Clara Hochstetler.
Family and friends may call after 2pm Tuesday, December 15, 2020 and all day Wednesday, December 16th at the Wilbur Miller Residence, 70050 West County Line Rd. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am Thursday, December 17th also at the Miller residence. Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will be in Borkholder Cemetery.

Borntreger, Todd Philip
June 12, 1963 - March 13, 2020
Todd Philip Borntreger took his final checkered flag on March 13, 2020 [Lebanon, OR].
Todd was born June 12, 1963 in Elkhart, Indiana to Basil & Eva (Hoover) Borntreger. He attended grade school in Goshen and Wakarusa and high school at Bethany Christian, where he graduated in 1982. He then attended Lincoln Tech where he earned his degree and began a Life- long career as an Automotive Tech. He worked at four shops in his life, the last being Miller's Auto Repair in Lebanon, OR for 17 years. Todd loved 'wrenching' and often told his kids "It's not really work if you love what you do".
Todd's love of cars also involved a love of all auto racing, but NASCAR was his favorite. This love began in his early twenties. He was able to attend several NASCAR races at many sites, but the highlight of every summer was attending the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis with his lifelong friend, George Graber.
After being married to NASCAR, Todd was married to Amy Kauffman on July 27, 1991 in Kalispell, MT. They lived in Goshen, IN where they welcomed daughters Taylor (1994) and Riley (1997). In 2002, the family moved to Oregon and in 2015, niece Jodi joined the family. A constant source of love and companionship in Todd's life were our dogs over the years.
Todd also enjoyed camping, airplanes, history, going out to eat, relaxing with his favorite beer and spending time with family.
Todd made a decision to enjoy what time he had, and this led to checking off many things on his bucket list. He enjoyed a trip to Hawaii, a NASCAR driving experience (a gift from several friends) and a family trip to Disney World.
Life truly is short, and Todd made the most of it. He is sorely missed by Amy, Taylor (Nate) Tubbs, Riley, Jodi, and dog Molly. He is also missed by parents Basil & Eva, sisters Cae (Mike) Yoder and Lynn (Martin) Brubaker, friend George Graber, cousin Kirk Hoover, numerous nieces & nephews, a large extended family and many friends at Lebanon Mennonite Church and in the community.
Many thanks to our Church family and Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, especially Angela. A gathering to celebrate Todd's life will take place later.

Boshart, Constance "Connie" Beverly Joslyn, 81, of Carthage, Jefferson Co., NY died August 3, 2020 at the same place. She was born September 12, 1938 at Henderson, Jefferson Co., NY to Raymond W. and Esther (Steele) Joslyn. On March 22, 1958 at Ellisburg, Jefferson Co., NY she was married to Harold Lyle Boshart, who died February 27, 2010.
Surviving are children, Daniel V. and Erin Boshart of Carthage, NY; Brian W. and Sharon Boshart of Waxahachie, Texas; Timothy R. and Jacqueline Boshart of Plattsburgh, NY; Shawn M. and Jennifer Boshart of Oswego, NY; and Kevin J. Boshart of Croghan, NY; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Connie was Office Manager for the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home in Carthage.
She was a member of the First Mennonite Church of New Bremen, where she held various leadership and servant roles throughout the years. She was also a member of the Argonaut Club, Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary, Adirondack Camping Association at Beaver Camp, the Adirondack Retirement Association at Brookside, and she was a faithful blood donor for the American Red Cross for many years, giving over 13 gallons.
Memorial services were held August 7, 2020 at Naumburg Mennonite Church, Castorland, Lewis Co., NY with burial in the First Mennonite Church Cemetery, New Bremen, Lewis Co., NY.
Boss, Paul
October 31, 1931 - March 1, 2020
Paul Boss, 88 of Mishawaka, formerly of Goshen and Kalispell, Montana died Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Primrose Retirement Community, Mishawaka.
He was born October 31, 1931 in Kalispell, Montana to John and Ruth (McDonald) Boss.
On August 8, 1952 he married Martha M. Mast in Creston, Montana. She died December 30, 2013.
Survivors include a daughter, Elvira (Kenny) Burke of Mishawaka; a son Ernest (Cynthia) Boss of Cassopolis, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Adam Boss of Goshen and Kaitlin (Dan) Buzalski of Mishawaka.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Boss, Jr. and Vernon Boss.
Paul had been an active member of Mountainview Mennonite Church, Kalispell, Montana. He was a farm foreman for the State of Montana College Agricultural Experiment Station in Creston, Montana. He also owned and operated a school bus for Flathead High School.
He was a long-time volunteer for the Creston Volunteer Fire Dept., where he served as Fire Marshall. Paul enjoyed puzzles and driving in the mountains.
In 1994 Paul and Martha moved to Greencroft, Goshen to be near family. They attended Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Elkhart. While living at Greencroft Paul volunteered many hours in the maintenance shop.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers at Primrose and the Center for Hospice for the special care given to Paul.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 1:30 p.m. until the 3:30 p.m. funeral service at Sunnyside Mennonite Church, 23786 Sunnyside Ave., Elkhart. Pastors Charlie and Terri Geiser will officiate.
Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Kalispell, Montana at a later date.
